FAQ

How to use TunaMedia?
When a reader comes across an interested print advertisement with TunaMedia service (a Tuna Code will be quoted), s/he can use his/her mobile phone to send
a SMS (text message) to the Access Number (a special mobile phone number) “98538500” with the Tuna Code as the content. Seconds later, more detailed
descriptions and extra contents of the advertisement will be delivered to the reader’s mobile phone via MMS.

What is a Tuna Code?
A Tuna Code begins with “TC”, followed by a multi-digits number (currently 4-digits). It is used to identify a particular piece of advertisement. Readers who want to
download extra contents of a print advertisement must enter the corresponding Tuna Code in the SMS body and send to the Access Number. TunaMedia system then
receives the SMS request, retrieves the contained Tuna Code, finds the contents of the corresponding advertisement using the Tuna Code, and sends these contents back to the readers via MMS.

How do I get a Tuna Code and How Much does it cost?

You, as an advertiser, need to register a TunaMedia account. You can then login at our website, create an advertisement, upload picture contents. These contents will

need to be inspected and approved by the TunaMedia administrator. You also need to pay per advertisement. After the contents are approved and paid, the
advertisement is activated and a Tuna Code will be assigned to it. There you can publish the Tuna Code together with your print advertisement. Note that once a Tuna
Code is assigned and disclosed to you, you can no longer change the contents. So you need to confirm that the contents are all correct before you pay for it.

How much do users pay to use TunaMedia?

Users only need to pay for the first SMS request (with the Tuna Code content) sent to the Access Number, which is around SGD 5 cents. There are no other extra

charges. If a WAP PUSH message is sent that links to a WAP site, and users follow that link to the WAP site, GPRS charges will incur which need to be paid by the
users. Depending on the users’ subscription package with the carriers, these charges are minimal and will normally be around SGD 20-30 cents.

What is a SMS?
SMS stands for Short Messaging Service. It is a built-in text messaging function in every GSM mobile phone. One SMS message can contain up to 160 english
characters.

What is a MMS?
MMS stands for Multimedia Message Service. It can be regarded as the next generation of SMS. Where SMS only supports text, MMS supports multimedia contents
such as pictures, images, sound, and even video clips, in addition to text. Moreover, the size of MMS is much larger than SMS, where it can be up to tens of kilobytes
(the size depends on wireless carriers’ offers) and supports thousands of words.

What is GPRS?
GPRS stands for General Packet Radio Service. It is specifically used on top of the GSM network (which is used mainly to transmit voice) to transmit data traffic.
Hence GPRS is a basic enabler used to transmit data like MMS, email, and visit WAP site (wireless Internet) in GSM network. GSM networks are the so-called 2G
networks, while GSM networks equipped with GPRS are 2.5G networks.

What is a WAP PUSH?
A WAP PUSH message is a special message, also called Service Message, that carries a link (like an Internet link) to a specified WAP site (a wireless version of
Internet website). A WAP site is like a mini Internet website that can contain a lot of information, links to other WAP sites, and forms that can be used to collect
information from the mobile users.

What is an Access Number?
An Access Number is a special mobile phone number of short code. It is like a “door” to the TunaMedia system. Only SMS sent to the Access Number can be picked
up by the TunaMedia system and be processed.

How do I send a SMS?
Every GSM mobile phone has built-in SMS or text messaging function. Open the Short Message or Text Messaging function in your mobile phone. Enter the destination
number in the “To” field (for TunaMedia service, this will be the Access Number), and the content in the body (for TunaMedia service, this will be the Tuna Code). Press
“Send” or “OK” to send it off.

How do I receive a MMS?
You don’t need to do anything to receive MMS. Incoming MMS will be automatically received by the mobile phone. When done, the mobile phone will notify you that a
new MMS has arrived.

How do I receive a WAP PUSH?
You don’t need to do anything to receive WAP PUSH (Service Message). Incoming WAP PUSH message will be automatically received by the mobile phone. When

What can I do with the link in WAP PUSH?
When you open a WAP PUSH message, you will see the link, like an Internet link, and an optional subject (or title) of the WAP PUSH message. Click on the link
(or choose “Retrieve” from the Options menu) will automatically take you to the WAP site that the link points to.

Are there any requirements to my phone to use TunaMedia?
Your mobile phone must support MMS and GPRS. Even though your mobile phone supports these services, many wireless carriers may not enable them by default
when you subscribe with them. In that case, you also need to enable these services with your wireless carriers. Please see the section “How do I enable MMS/GPRS
service?” below.

How do I enable MMS and/or GPRS service?

If your subscription with your wireless carriers does not enable MMS and GPRS services by default, you need to call your carrier and ask them to enable these

services for you. For Singapore, you may call the following numbers using your mobile phone:

Singtel 1626
StarHub 1633
M1 1627

Once you enable these services, you are ready to use TunaMedia. Note that sending MMS and receiving MMS will involve GPRS traffic, and GPRS traffic usually incurs

GPRS charges. Depending on your subscription package, some carriers may offer special packages that allow certain GPRS traffic volume for free.

What can I do if I get no response?
Make sure that your mobile phone supports MMS/GPRS and that you have these services enabled (please see the section “How do I enable MMS/GPRS service?”
  above).
Check that you have entered the correct Tuna Code and sent to the correct Access Number.
Sometimes delay up to minutes may occur during peak traffic period.
If no response after prolonged period, send email to our customer support enquiry@tunamedia.com.

What can I do when I got a message saying "please login to ... to retrieve your MMS"?
This usually means that your mobile does not support MMS/GPRS, or you have not enabled these services. Please see the section “How do I enable MMS/GPRS
service?” above.

What can I do if my phone does not have enough memory?
You cannot receive more messages if your mobile phone runs out of memory. Delete some of the old messages to make room for the new ones.
